Becoming a mother can be terrifying. When I left my banking career in February 2017 to become a stay-at-home mom to newborn Catherine, I found myself searching for a community of mothers and their children to help us through this new experience. The FIT4MOM community offered exactly what I needed with the added benefit of a regular exercise routine.
My greatest passions are motherhood and helping people through challenging experiences. For many years I was a volunteer tax preparer helping clients through the difficulty of tax filing. I was honored with the 2012 Volunteer of the Year award for this role. Now, as a FIT4MOM Instructor, I can live out my passion by helping moms experience fitness, fun for them and their babies, and a community of others going through the same challenges, all with my daughter in tow.
My fitness experience includes running over 16 races ranging in distance from half-marathon to 5k; placing in the top 10 females on Northern Trust’s Corporate Challenge team; over 20 years attending yoga, spinning and various fitness classes; and over 5 years playing on softball teams.

Before joining FIT4MOM in June of 2013, I worked as a School Social Worker at Munster High School. I really enjoyed working with high school students, their families, teachers, and staff at MHS during the 4 years that I was there. However, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom after my daughter, Ava, was born in April of 2013. Going from working a full-time job and being surrounded by people all of the time, I found myself feeling kind of isolated from people and needed an outlet. We were also looking for houses in June of 2013, so we were very busy. My best friend from 6th grade had been involved with FIT4MOM for a few years and invited me to try a class. From the time I was pregnant, she told me all about the classes (Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre) and play dates she attended and it really sounded like fun.
I was so excited to try a class with my daughter for the first time. I felt welcomed right away and loved the classes/play dates or just hanging out after class. It was really nice to be a part of a community of moms and children, and to be able to experience this journey of motherhood together and share advice to help one another through all of the challenges of being a mom. This was the outlet I needed and I know my daughter loved getting out of the house too. The connections we made with other moms and their kids and regular exercise routine built into our week was beneficial for the both of us. I had my son Brody in late September of 2015 and worked out during my pregnancy (till I was almost 8 months pregnant) and I felt great! So, FIT4MOM has been a part of our life for several years now.
I am very passionate about fitness, motherhood, and helping others in general. Now as a FIT4MOM instructor, I look forward to helping moms achieve their fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle, for themselves and their family. From my early childhood years, I have remained active. I played softball from age 6-17, ran track and played volleyball in high school, ran in a few 5k races, and have attended several fitness classes over the years (zumba, cardio kickboxing, taebo, yoga, barre, etc).
So come try your first FREE FIT4MOM class for yourself and your kids to experience a sense of community, support, advice, and motivation to achieve your fitness goals, and fun!
Rewind to Summer 2015. I'm working as Construction Engineer of a Kansas DOT office, constantly stressed as I command scores of workers and sign off on checks for million dollar projects. My husband worked an even more stressful job as an Army officer. Having fulfilled his commitment and needing a change from what both of us were doing, we left Kansas when I was 6 months pregnant with our daughter, Mila, and moved to Indiana for a new start.
I showed up to FIT4MOM at 2 weeks postpartum, to quite a bit of shock and confusion. I told them if all they let me do was walk, then that's all I would do, but I was bored and clueless at the whole raising a child thing (I had never even babysat before). I really enjoyed the exercise and especially the people. I would stay for an hour after class just chatting with the moms and letting Mila play with the other kids.
About 3 months into my membership, we had a Get Fit Challenge and I took full advantage of it. I've always had high cholesterol and knew I needed to revamp my diet. It's difficult to find the motivation when you're married to someone blessed with a speedy metabolism who hates vegetables. I may have only gotten my points for vegetable eating once, but that was the hurdle I needed to get me going on the right path. Here I am, lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight and finally have my cholesterol in check, because I got the support and motivation I needed from my fellow fit mamas. As an instructor, I hope to offer clients the support they need to meet their fitness goals and the resources they need to (possibly start and) maintain a healthier lifestyle.
So come for yourself, come for your kids, come for the support and advice, and come for the fun!
